Earth Day

As part of its commitment to sustainability, UMUC is offering a special presentation on what the university is doing to protect the environment and how each of us can help end plastic pollution.

Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to providing the information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and behavior about plastics. Come learn the basic information you need to know about plastic pollution and recycling and hear about UMUC's efforts to promote sustainability in its facilities.

Cora Lee Gilbert-Catron, director of sustainability and contract services in Facilities Management, has worked at UMUC for more than 35 years. In the last 10 years, she has incorporated sustainability initiatives into her tasks. On behalf of UMUC, she provides annual reports covering a range of sustainability information to the University System of Maryland and to Second Nature, an organization designed to mobilize higher education to work toward the goal of a sustainable society. She also speaks on UMUC's environmental efforts at events and networks with outside organizations, such as the Maryland Environmental Service, the Maryland Green Registry, and the Prince George's County Department of the Environment.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn how UMUC is doing its part in protecting the environment—and how you can do the same. Light refreshments will be served. Respond early. Seating is limited. Admission is free.

Recycle Your Plastic Refuse

For the month of April, UMUC will provide recycling bins at all its buildings specifically for the disposal of plastics that are not a part of single-stream recycling: product wrapping, grocery bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, etc. Instead of throwing these items in the trash, place them in our special collection boxes to give them a new life as earth-friendly products.

If you require an accommodation to fully participate in this event, contact Accessibility Services at or 240-684-2287. Please allow a minimum of 72 hours before the event to arrange the accommodation.
