John Petrov, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
John Petrov is vice president and chief human resources officer at UMUC. He joined UMUC in January 2012; he previously served as associate vice president of human resources with leadership responsibility for compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, the human resources service center and information systems. Mr. Petrov is also an adjunct faculty member at UMUC, where he has taught courses in human resource management.
Mr. Petrov has more than 15 years of human resources and leadership experience. Prior to joining UMUC, he served as the vice president and chief human resources officer at Fairmont General Hospital in West Virginia. Prior to that, he served as Bayshore Medical Center's human resources leader, where he successfully led the organization to receive its first-time recognition as a "Best Places to Work" in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Petrov holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University and a master's degree in Human Resource Management from Briar Cliff University. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). He is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and certified as a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
