Classes and Services

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) offers bachelor's degree classes and student services at the Barden Education Center in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Please call this location to receive information on base access. Fort Belvoir is a military installation. In some instances, you may be required to complete a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) waiver.

 

Directions and Parking

Take Interstate 95 south to Fairfax County Parkway/7100 to Exit 166A. Take Fairfax County Parkway to its end at US Route 1/Richmond Highway and turn left. At first traffic light, turn right into the Fort Belvoir Tulley Gate. After going through the Tulley Gate, follow the road until it ends at Belvoir Road. Turn right onto Belvoir Road. The Barden Education Center is on your left.

Testing Services

This location offers the following types of testing services for members of the military and the civilian community with base access:

  • Placement testing for writing and math courses on a walk-in basis
  • Proctoring services for non-UMUC students

Placement and proctoring testing is available by appointment only. Please call to schedule an appointment.

Security and Access

Proper military ID is required for base access. Visitors who do not have a military ID must go to the Pass Office. Access is only granted to visitors if they have been given authority by the Pass Office. Those with military IDs are allowed to bring guests on base; guests must present a valid photo ID.

Due to recent conditions of heightened security, civilian students taking UMUC classes on military bases may be required to complete a waiver in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act permitting UMUC to provide personal information (such as Social Security Number, address, and telephone number) to the military administration. You may find the FERPA waiver form online.
