UMUC

School of Undergraduate Studies

The Road to Graduation

Apply to the University:

New Students:
In order to begin taking classes at UMUC you must first apply.  You can fill out an online application for enrollment here.  It takes 24-48 hours for a new applicant to be accepted and processed.

Returning Students:
If you were previously enrolled at UMUC and it has been 6 or more semesters (2 years) since you last registered for classes then you will need to reapply to the University.  Please note that students who reapply may have their application fee waived.

Asian or European Divisions Students:
If you were enrolled in our European or Asian division you need to fill out a Relocation Form.  This will open an account for you at the Stateside Division and begin the process of migrating your records from either Europe or Asia.  It can take up to 4 weeks for all paperwork to migrate from the European and Asian Divisions.  Please note that Official Evaluations and SOC agreements from our overseas divisions are still valid Stateside.

Transcripts

Many students come to UMUC with a variety of transfer credit.  In order to evaluate your transfer credit we need copies of your Official Transcripts from the previous institutions you attended.  An Official copy of a transcript is one that is issued by the academic institution, bears the seal of that institution, and is often signed by the registrar.  Typically institutions send sealed copies directly to UMUC.  If you have a sealed copy sent to you and then deliver the transcript to us make sure you DO NOT BREAK THE SEAL.  This will make the transcript unofficial and we cannot evaluate credit from an unofficial copy of your transcript.

Transcripts can be sent to:

If you want to check the status of your transcript(s) log into your MyUMUC student portal and go to My Academics → Academic Reports → View Previous Education Info.

UMUC accepts credit from regionally accredited institutions as well as ACE accredited institutions.  If you are unsure if your credit will transfer in you can contact an advisor.

Here is a list of the most common transcripts we receive from students:
High School/GED: Needed only if you have not completed 24 s.h. of college level credit.

  • 4-year College/University
  • 2-year Community College
  • AP (Advanced Placement)
  • CLEP
  • DANTES
  • Military (AARTS and SMARTS)
  • Defense Language Institute/Defense Language Placement Test
  • International Baccalaureate
  • International students need to have their transcripts evaluated on a course by course basis by a 3rd party like AACRAO.

Evaluation

An Official Degree Progress Report (formerly an Official Evaluation) is the best way to determine your remaining requirements.

After we receive your Official Transcript(s) you need to request a Degree Progress Report through your academic advisor.  Please note that an evaluation takes approximately 8-10 weeks to be completed.  In the meantime, please contact you advisor to select safe courses while you wait for your evaluation to be completed.

How do I determine which catalog year I should follow?
