Doctor of Management

Program Overview

The Doctor of Management program requires the completion of 48 credits of coursework and successful completion of comprehensive exams and a dissertation. The program is offered online with limited residencies. Successful completion of a 3-credit prerequisite course (DMGT 600) is required prior to admission to the program. The DMGT 600 requirement may be waived if the applicant submits a GMAT score of 650 or higher or has already completed a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD). Full admission to the program is granted upon meeting one of those criteria.

Program Highlights

With an emphasis on the practical application of concepts, research, and knowledge to real world management issues, students are prepared in areas such as: leadership, management theory and practice, strategy formulation and execution, operational planning, technology acquisition, organizational and behavioral processes, assessment, and global operations.

  • Students must complete a minimum of 48 credits of coursework, the dissertation, and required comprehensive exams.
  • No transfer credits are accepted.

While the majority of coursework is completed online, students must also participate in some mandatory residencies—onsite course meetings—at the UMUC headquarters in Adelphi, Maryland.  For the convenience of students, these residencies, or in-person meetings, are generally scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays.
