Mark J. Gerencser
Mark J. Gerencser, Senior Partner and Senior Vice President, served as the Managing Director of the Global Government Business, leading the expansion of Public Sector business within the US and abroad. He served on the Board of Directors as well as a member of the Firm’s Leadership Team that set the strategic agenda for Booz Allen, including market direction and strategy, resource allocation, and major investments. Previously, Mr. Greenacres built the Firm’s National Security business and created the Homeland Security Practice. He also started the commercial Enterprise Resilience Practice serving clients in Consumer, Financial Services, Energy and Healthcare industries. Booz Allen Hamilton is a global strategy and technology consulting firm with over $4 billion in annual revenue and more than 20,000 employees.
Mr. Gerencser, who has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University, School of Engineering and an M.S. in Technology Management from the University of Maryland University College, joined Booz Allen Hamilton in 1982, as an entry level Consultant. He was elected partner in 1995 and senior partner in 2003. He now leads Booz Allen’s strategic investment in Cyber Space and also plays a central role in helping clients develop, initiate, and sustain Megacommunities to solve complex global problems.
Mr. Gerencser has had many external leadership roles, including: leading CEO summits addressing the interdependencies between business, trade, and security; leading a Cyber-Summit for Fortune 1000 and Government Agency CIOs to create a shared agenda for information privacy and information assurance; chairing several technology studies for the Electronics Industries Association (EIA) to forecast the impact of technological change on business; and representing industry to several Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) Net Assessment initiatives to help assess the readiness level of US defense capabilities.
Mr. Gerencser created the United States National Security Scholarship Program which works with local Universities and the Federal Government to recruit new talent into the National Security Community. He was nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate Armed Services Committee as a member of the National Security Education Board, chaired by the Secretary of Defense. He is a member of Business Executives for National Security (BENS) and serves on the Board of Directors. He is a member of the University of Maryland’s Board of Visitors and the Advisory Board for its Strategic Security Laboratory. He is a member of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). Consulting Magazine in 2007 named him as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Consultants in the world. Executive Magazine named him one of the Top 10 Game Changers in Washington, DC for 2009.
Mr. Gerencser has appeared on numerous television news programs (e.g., MSNBC, Fox News, CNN) and has been featured in print media as well (e.g., Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Washington Post). He has authored numerous articles on technology and its impact on business or national security. He recently co-authored a book entitled, Megacommunities, which defines how leaders in government, private sector and civil society can tackle today’s global challenges together. He enjoys golf, snowboarding, and martial arts and when he is not riding his Harley, you may find him on the diamonds of Northern Virginia coaching youth baseball.
