SUBJECT: Graduate Admissions Policy
UMUC conforms to the Board of Regents Policy III-7.10 Policy On Graduate Education, approved on June 21, 1990.
Applicants for graduate certificate and master's degree programs must submit a completed application for admission, a non-refundable application fee, and an official transcript indicating completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor's degree granting university or college.
Some graduate programs require the submission of additional information before an admissions decision can be made (See individual program information on www.umuc.edu and in the Graduate Catalog).
Based upon articulation agreements between the Graduate School and the Undergraduate School, specific courses taken in undergraduate status may apply to both undergraduate and graduate degree programs if student eligibility and grade requirements are met. More information on these articulation agreements
is available in the Graduate Catalog or the Undergraduate Catalog.
Admissions Criteria Admission to the Doctor of Management Program is competitive. Meeting or exceeding
the eligibility standards does not guarantee admission. DM applicants must
submit the required application materials by the published deadlines in order
to be considered for admission (see www.umuc.edu/doctor).
The eligibility standards require an official transcript indicating successful
completion of a master's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited
college or university and the following:
A personal statement
An up-to-date resume
Two letters of reference
The Doctor of Management Application for Admissions
Successful completion (grade of B or better) of DMGT 600
For the Doctor of Management in Community College Policy and Administration, all of the above admissions criteria apply. In addition, the Vice Provost and Dean, Graduate School, can determine if related experience can be used as a substitute for DMGT 600.
Internationally Educated Students
Applicants educated in countries other than the United States must have their official transcripts evaluated by a UMUC-approved international credential agency. The international credential agency must send a copy of the transcript evaluation to UMUC. Receipt of the transcript evaluation does not automatically ensure admission to the Graduate School. Permanent residents, nonresident aliens, or individuals who do not hold U.S. citizenship, require the following documents and qualifications:
A photocopy (front and back) of either a permanent residency card, work authorization card, or the first page and visa page of a valid passport (only for students who reside in the United States on a visa);
Evidence of English language proficiency (refer to Section II.C.); and
Official documents indicating successful completion of the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree or official transcripts from an accredited university or college.
Applicants who have not received a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university in the United States or an accredited university in one of the countries listed on www.umuc.edu/students/admissions/international/grad.cfm must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting an official score report from one of the following testing options:
The Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) with a minimum score of 79;
The paper-based TOEFL with the Test of Written English (TWE) with a minimum score of 550;
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 6.5;
The EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency with a minimum grade of Pre-1; or
A transcript indicating completion of at least 12 credits of graduate coursework within the past two years, with a grade of "B" or higher, at a regionally accredited U.S. degree-granting institution or college. All credit is subject to review before being accepted as evidence of English proficiency.
