National Military Appreciation Month

University of Maryland University College proudly celebrates National Military Appreciation Month, honoring all the men and women who have worn the uniforms of the U.S. Armed Forces. We thank you for your service.

In 1999, Congress dedicated May as National Military Appreciation Month to encourage the nation to express our appreciation for the sacrifices and successes made by our servicemembers. Educating military personnel has been part of our proud tradition since 1947, when UMUC became the first university to send professors overseas to teach in tents in Europe right after World War II. Today, we enroll more than 30,000 active-duty military servicemembers worldwide, and more than half of our students are military servicemembers, reservists, veterans, and family members.

Join us in celebrating National Military Appreciation Month. Read our heroes' stories and share your own stories on Twitter about the servicemembers who have made a positive impact on people's lives using #militaryheroes.
