UMUC is a USM institution with a significant national profile
- In Fiscal Year (FY) 2007*, UMUC's worldwide enrollment ranked first among 4-year degree granting public universities in the U.S.
- More than 34,000 stateside students attended UMUC in fall 2008, an increase of 142% over the 10 years since fall 1998.
- The Board of Regents projects that UMUC's enrollments will grow by 48% in 2018.
UMUC is a world leader in online education
- In FY 2009, UMUC had over 196,000 online course enrollments.
- Currently, UMUC offers more than 100 bachelor and master degree programs and certificates fully online. In FY 2009, UMUC offered close to 760 distinct courses online.
- In 2007 UMUC's M.S. in Biotechnology Studies and M.S. in Environmental Management degree programs were designated "Professional Science Master's" programs by the Council of Graduate Schools.
UMUC is a Maryland institution addressing Maryland's needs
- In FY 2009, UMUC served more than 30,000 Marylanders.
- In FY 2009, UMUC offered on site, face to face instruction at 21 sites throughout Maryland.
- Maryland residents represented 63% of UMUC's fall 2008 stateside course enrollments.
- UMUC has alliances with all 16 Maryland Community Colleges, which includes 355 articulated programs.
- In FY 2009, 604 undergraduate degrees in Information Technology (IT) were awarded by UMUC's stateside programs. UMUC also awarded 270 graduate IT degrees.
UMUC is a global institution
- In FY 2009, UMUC's overseas divisions offered on site classes in more than 23 countries throughout the world, enrolling 35,764 individual students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
- University of Maryland University College of Adelphi has been ranked as the most popular college or university among active-duty service members by Military Times Edge. UMUC topped 49 other colleges and universities and was lauded for its partnerships, selection of online courses, campuses on three continents—Europe and Asia as well as in the United States—and degrees designed to complement military training.
UMUC provides access to higher education for minority students
- In fall 2008, 32% of UMUC's stateside students were African-Americans; minority students comprised 43% of the total enrollment—UMUC enrolls more African American students than any of the four individual Maryland HBCU's.
- In FY 2009, 30% of students who took at least 1 online class were African-American.
- In FY 2009, 31% of master's degrees were awarded to African-American students; 28% of all degrees and certificates were awarded to African-American students.
UMUC provides higher education opportunities to working adults
- As of spring 2009, three out of four undergraduate students enrolled in UMUC's stateside programs were working full time.
- 48% of UMUC stateside students are working parents.
- In fall 2008, the median age for students enrolled in UMUC's stateside undergraduate programs was 34 years old.
UMUC is the senior academic institution delivering higher education to our military
- Currently, UMUC enrolls around 50,000 active duty military, reserves, dependants and veterans.
- Currently, UMUC offers courses at more than 130 military installations and operating locations on seven continents.
- KMI Media and Military Advanced Education (MAE) have named UMUC one of the top twenty colleges and universities serving military students for 2008.
