Under his leadership the UMUC graduate program in technology management became one of the largest and most recognized programs of its kind, both nationally and internationally. Under Dr. Aje’s stewardship, the department won a highly competitive bid to offer the UMUC engineering management program to NASA's engineers at the Goddard Space Center in Greenbelt, was awarded a grant by the United States Department of Energy to develop the UMUC environmental management program, and published the peer-reviewed Journal of Technology Management, which had a worldwide circulation.

Dr. Aje is a nationally recognized technology and engineering management educator and professional. The Engineering and Technology Management Education and Research Council (ETMERC) recently appointed him its vice president for education. This organization’s members are heads of engineering and technology management departments and programs throughout the world. He is vice president and member of the executive board of the International Association for Management of Technology, and a member of the editorial board of Transactions on Engineering Management, the premier engineering management journal published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Dr. Aje is also a member of the board of examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Before joining UMUC, Dr. Aje taught at the George Washington University and was a laboratory manager and instructor at Howard University College of Medicine.
