Division: UMUC Adelphi
Department: Maryland Operations
Title: Coordinator

Biography

My name is Jessica Rose and I am a graduate of University of Maryland, College Park, where I completed my Bachelor of Science in psychology. Upon graduating from the University of Maryland, I began working as a rehabilitation counselor. From there, I began working as a case manager for the Mental Health Authority of St. Mary's. I was responsible for the planning, coordinating, and monitoring of consumer support services. I thoroughly enjoyed the human advocacy aspect of that position, and at that time I began to gain interest in the business aspect of human services.

My interest with the human services and education field led me to my first position with UMUC in April 2005. I began working as an undergraduate advisor in Adelphi, a position offering me insight into the programs and offices of UMUC. By October 2005, I began working as the regional advisor at Andrews and Bolling AFB, where I gained hands-on experience with our military servicemembers. In March 2006, I was offered the position of coordinator within Maryland Operations overseeing our offices on Bolling AFB, Ft.Belvoir, Ft. Myer, the Pentagon, and Quantico.

I'm excited to announce that I've started my MBA with UMUC and I expect to accomplish this next milestone in May 2008. Gaining the necessary skills that will allow me to become an effective organization leader is of great importance to me. For this reason, I am interested in becoming a member of ASAC. I feel that my involvement with ASAC will not only provide me with more information in regards to UMUC and the USM as a whole, but ASAC will also provide me with the opportunity to advocate for the UMUC staff - a role that I look forward to filling!

Nomination Essay

As Jessica's supervisor it gives me great pleasure to nominate her to serve on the Adelphi Staff Advisory Council. I've worked with Jessica since she joined our UMUC family in April of 2005 and have had many occasions to witness her dedication, hard work, and her enthusiasm for UMUC.

Jess's can-do attitude coupled with her concern for her coworkers and employees would make her a stellar addition to the ASAC. Having worked in several different UMUC units has given Jess a foundation that would serve her well in this role. Jess has always expressed an interest in the welfare of UMUC and its employees, so I know she would be a truly valued member of this group.

I've observed Jessica serve as both a follower and as a leader in different team projects. In both roles she is equally driven to find a solution. She is a hardworking team member who has exceptional organizational skills. She is also an able leader whose team respects and follows her.
