Art Reception and Exhibit
Celebrate 25 years of the sister state relationship between Maryland and Kanagawa with a reception, art talk, and exhibit featuring 96 ukiyo-e prints. All events are being held between November 16 and December 3, 2006 in the Gladys Goldstein Gallery of the Inn and Conference Center.

As the result of a collaborative effort between Web teams in Europe and stateside, UMUC Europe rolled out a completely redesigned Web site that parallels UMUC’s stateside site and mirrors its online image and identity. The new site offers easy access to vital information for students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as one-click access to online registration services, contact information, the student portal, and library services.
“For a university with UMUC’s global footprint, few things are as important as a strong online presence and a unified brand identity,” said President Susan Aldridge. “Our new UMUC Europe site delivers on those priorities, and, at the same time, looks great and is easy to use. Thanks for providing such a well-organized site for our students and faculty.”

The Grand Opening of Dorsey Station Center
On Thursday, October 19, 2006, 2–4 p.m., a special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held marking the official opening of Dorsey Station Center, UMUC’s newest location, conveniently located on the MARC train line at 6865 Deerpath Road in Elkridge, Maryland. After the ceremony, refreshments were served, and a tour provided of the 22,000-square-foot center.

MDE Program Earns CEL Accreditation

UMUC’s Master of Distance Education (MDE) program recently received EFMD CEL accreditation, the highest international standard of technology-enhanced learning programs in the field of management education. The awarding body carefully examined the effectiveness of the program’s teaching and learning process and regarded UMUC's MDE program as a “best practice case in academia”.
UMUC Asia Celebrates 50th Anniversary
University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is celebrating its 50th year of providing education programs for U.S. military communities throughout Asia and the Pacific.
The first UMUC courses in Asia began in September 1956 in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa, three years after the Korean truce and four years after the end of the military occupation of Japan. During the first year the program expanded to Guam and Taiwan, and in subsequent years, at different times, to Australia, Diego Garcia, Hong Kong, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Malaysia, Midway Island, New Zealand, The People’s Republic of China, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

EMBA Students go to China
On September 9, 2006, 23 students from UMUC’s executive MBA program embarked on an unforgettable, weeklong journey to get a first-hand look into the cross-cultural, organizational, and management issues driving business practices in Hong Kong and China. The students then used the knowledge they gained in the classroom and on the trip to develop a market entry strategy for a partnering organization.
“Light of the Chesapeake; A Photographic Essay by Don Kneessi”
Photographer Donald Kneessi celebrates the beauty and challenges of Chesapeake Bay in a major exhibition of his work scheduled for the Arts Program Gallery beginning the first of September. “Light of the Chesapeake; A Photographic Essay by Don Kneessi” is a comprehensive study of the Bay in all its varied aspects. Mr. Kneessi is a master technician with a gift for composition and drama.
UMUC Tigers 2006 Season ![]()
Dr. Aldridge and other staff members cheered the UMUC Tigers Softball Team as they played on Thursday July 13th at 6:30pm at Fletcher’s Field #1. Fletcher’s Field is located on Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale about 15 minutes from the ICC (View photo gallery of the event).
The Tigers finished the season with a record of 8 wins and 12 losses which is a big improvement from the 4 and 16 last year and the 1 and 19 the year before.
