Several University of Maryland University College (UMUC) students represented The Republic of Chile at the 2009 Washington Model Organization of American States (WMOAS), held April 7–11, 2009. The event was sponsored by the Department of External Relations and the Organization of American States, and was coordinated by the Inter-American Institute for Diplomacy. Plenary sessions were held on the first and last days of the event at the OAS Building, in the Hall of the Americas, and committees met at the Fairfax at Embassy Row. This was the third time UMUC sent a team of student delegates to this annual event. The UMUC team was unique from other teams, in that the group consisted wholly of a wide range of ages of varying professions, and they were all enrolled in a combined on-site Distance Education History class.
The next Washington Model OAS General Assembly for University will be March 30–April 3, 2010.
