Financial Management & Accounting Dual Degree Options

James Howard, PhD, CGFM, program director for financial management

Bruce Lubich, PhD, CPA, program director for accounting

Donald Gakenheimer, MBA, academic coordinator

Overview

Acquiring a dual degree is an efficient means by which to gain the additional credentials that can provide an important edge in competing for that ideal position, such as chief financial officer (CFO), senior internal forensic accountant, division or branch chief. The dual degree can also serve as a vehicle for obtaining the additional competencies and knowledge necessary to move into lateral positions within an organization.

For example, the Master of Science in management (MSM) combined with the MS in accounting and financial management (MSAF) provides in-depth knowledge in management practices and the technical aspects of being a CFO.

When you acquire one degree, you can earn the second (dual) degree by taking an additional 18-21 credit hours of course work. This is possible because there are courses common to both degrees.
