Welcome to the Cooperative Education Information Session. Through Co-op, you have the opportunity to earn credit while enhancing your career potential. You earn upper-level credit by applying classroom theory and project management skills to new learning situations on the job.

What is "Co-op"?
"Co-op" is the term used at UMUC to describe any work-based learning situation. It is a flexible academic program specifically designed for adult students. Qualifying Co-op experiences might include:

  • Internships
  • Field experiences
  • Volunteer work
  • Paid or unpaid, full or part time employment positions

Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students may earn academic credit for approved Co-op experiences. Career and Cooperative Education Center counselors will help you enroll in Co-op.

Graduate Students
Graduate students may participate in Co-op situations to gain experience related to their field of study, but may not earn graduate-level credit for their experience. Career and Cooperative Education Center counselors will assist graduate students if their Co-op employer requires an agreement with UMUC. Graduate students may also elect to enroll in Co-op for post-bachelor's degree credit. Enrolling in Co-op can be a means for gaining entry to a new career field.
