I Know What I Want To Do – Now How Do I Get There?

If you know what career you want to pursue but you just don't know how to get there then this information is for you. When planning your career, you can look at where you want to be in 6-7 years and work backwards. You need to assess the type work experience and the education you will need to be able to do the job. This is important because both of these will play an integral role in achieving your career goal.

Exploring your career so you can achieve your goal involves the following:

  1. Learning about the specific occupation and majors associated with that occupation
  2. Researching job descriptions
  3. Understanding how occupations, job settings and majors are organized
  4. Investigating education and training options
  5. Understanding what skills and personal characteristics are required for specific occupations
