Russian Student Wins Phi Kappa Phi
Award
Anna Nikiforova, a 1998 summa cum laude graduate of UMUC's joint program
with Irkutsk State University in Irkutsk, Russia, received one of four
Outstanding Senior awards granted by the University of Maryland Phi Kappa
Phi Chapter in May.
Nikiforova was selected for the Phi Kappa Phi award based on her involvement
as a student leader in the Irkutsk program and is using the grant to help
finance her M.B.A. studies at Texas Christian University. She also recently
placed second in a national competition for students in business in Russia.
"In addition to inductees from UMUC, students are included from UMCP,
UMBC, and UMES. The award is quite an accomplishment," said Dennis Coates,
director of awards for Phi Kappa Phi's University of Maryland chapter.
"It is the only chapter of its kind, including students from four of the
University System of Maryland institutions."
Overseas Faculty Invited to Teach Online
Faculty who formerly taught in any of UMUC's overseas programs are encouraged
to consider applying to teach online for UMUC. UMUC's Web site (www.umuc.edu)
offers information about distance education as well as a teaching application
form.
Former full-time faculty who were hired through the state-side offices
can send e-mail to overseas-programs@umuc.edu
(with full name, Social Security number, and the dates they taught overseas)
and ask that their original transcripts and letters of reference be forwarded
to the appropriate dean.
All online faculty are required to attend a rigorous WebTycho training
session before being assigned to a class.
