Dorrence E. Wilkinson '58
Orange City, Florida, retired from the US Air Force with the rank of lieutenant
colonel after 23 years as a pilot. He received his MEd from the College
of William and Mary in 1966 and taught high school physics for 17 years.
Now in his late 70s, he plays trombone and tuba in three dance bands and
two concert bands.
Don Hymel '86
San Antonio, Texas, coauthored a book with poet Kemp Gregory, entitled
Love, Lies, Linnea, and Lucky Lucifer. The book is an anthology
of poetry, fiction, drama, and jazz variations, and is available through
major online resellers or directly from the publisher at www.iuniverse.com/marketplace/bookstore.
Timothy L. Mantz '90
Spotsylvania, Virginia, is a major in the Virginia Army National Guard,
and was promoted to budget officer of the National Flood Insurance Program
in the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Spotsylvania.
Robert Lee Reams '92
Omaha, Nebraska, was promoted to safety director of Nebraska Beef, where
he is responsible for the safety of more than 1,200 employees. He was
also named to the company's Who's Who list for 2001.
Diane Toler Verney '92
Edgewater, Maryland, works as an analyst and wrote, "I'm looking
forward to a continued career in the technology support and services division
of ARINC at their headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland."
Mark Reece '93
Lincoln, Nebraska, accepted a position as a veterans service representative
in Lincoln.
Ed Rosa '93
Springfield, Virginia, took some time off from the world of finance after
graduating from UMUC. He then went on to complete a master's degree in
administration, with a concentration in information resource management,
from Central Michigan University. He plans to retire in 2002 and work
as a business and funds manager for an information technology team.
Sheryl Bowanko '94
Clifton, Virginia, works for SAIC. She wrote, "UMUC provided the
opportunity to work a long, challenging day and succeed in getting a master's
relevant to my career. It was a very positive experience and I recommend
it highly to working professionals."
Linda J. King '95
Leesburg, Florida, retired in September 2000 after 30 years with the US
Air Force. She returned from Italy with her husband and is traveling around
North America.
Joseph L. Cofield '96
Naples, Florida, is a seventh-grade social sciences teacher at Bonita
Springs Middle School in Florida and the on-site coordinator for CROP
(College Reach-Out Program), a program designed to increase the number
of low- and middle-income first-generation college graduates. He wrote,
"I am thrilled to announce that I received my professional educator's
certificate from the State of Florida Department of Education."
Lisa Castro Endres '97
San Antonio, Texas, received her bachelor's degree from UMUC-Europe with
a specialization in art history. She now works in the curatorial department
of the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio.
Timothy Jerome Gough '97
Millington, Tennessee, recently moved to Tennessee and is planning to
build his first home. He wrote, "After 20 years in the armed services,
it feels good to finally settle in a community and watch my children grow
up in one place. A lot of places have influenced me in my home design,
so maybe you'll catch a glimpse of its interior in Better Homes and
Gardens."
Steven Koenig '98
Arlington, Virginia, works as a public diplomacy officer in Washington,
D.C., and recently returned from two years in Maputo, Mozambique.
Timothy B. Berry '99
Fort Lee, Virginia, was selected for promotion to sergeant first class
and also selected to attend warrant officer candidate school. He was married
on September 9, 2000.
Joseph A. Biancalana III '99
Castle Rock, Colorado, left the U.S. Army with the rank of staff sergeant
in signals intelligence and now works as a software engineer for TRW in
Aurora, Colorado. He does computer programming part-time for a local private
technical college and hopes to finish a master's in computer science in
2001. He wrote, "I still run around in the woods and jump out of
airplanes in the Colorado National Guard."
Jason D. Lovell '00
Poway, California, leads the aviation information services department
for a squadron of more than 800 people. He wrote, "I moved to San
Diego and love the weather and beaches. Stay motivated!"
John Anthony Matthews '00
Upper Marlboro, Maryland, wrote, "Thanks to UMUC, I have an interesting
position with an employee-friendly company. Although it took me two-and-a-half
years to complete my degree, it was well worth it. I'm looking forward
to my doctorate! Thanks, UMUC!"
Daniel J. Schmidt '00
Thurmont, Maryland, following his graduation, began a new career as a
computer programmer with the US Department of Defense.
