Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends:
The entire membership of the University of Maryland University College Alumni Association joins the nation and the world in expressing its deepest sympathy to all those affected by the terrible tragedy of September 11th. The full extent of our nation's loss is still unfolding. The losses have reached into the UMUC family and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families of our departed friends and colleagues. Across the United States, in our unity over this tragedy, we showed the world the spirit and courage that are the heart of this country. In our anguish over this event, we came to understand a singular feeling of how we are linked one to another. If there is one clear lesson we can take from this tragedy, it is the importance of strengthening our commitment to a unified society and doing what it takes to continue to build a better and stronger America. As James Madison said, "Knowledge will always govern ignorance," and we must be prepared to support institutions that will continue to spread knowledge and enlightenment in a world that desperately needs greater understanding among its many peoples. The University of Maryland University College Alumni Association is ready to continue its mission of building strong collegial relationships among our extended family worldwide, and to continue to support financially the global educational mission of UMUC. On behalf of the UMUC Alumni Association, I hope you and your family enjoy a healthy and prosperous New Year. Sincerely,
Frank R. Kent III '91 |
