New HR Alumni Network Helps UMUC Students and Area Employers

Our alumni know a good thing when they see it -- and a UMUC education is one of those good things. That's why several area executives in the field of human resources (HR) who are also UMUC graduates have launched an initiative called the HR Alumni Network. The goal is to bring UMUC students and alumni together with global employers who are seeking qualified applicants.

Frank Kent, president of the UMUC Alumni Association and director of human resources at Thales Contact Solutions, came up with the idea.

"It has always been my belief that UMUC could provide not only a great education, but job opportunities for both students and alumni," Kent said. "One of the most important purposes of an education is to help individuals fulfill their career ambitions and dreams."

Kent, together with Sharon Campbell '93, chair of the Career and Professional Development Committee of the UMUC Alumni Association, asked Jeff Brody '93, human resources director for Northrop Grumman, to lead the initiative.

Brody said that he sees the network as an excellent way "to leverage the talents, professional accomplishments, and influence that UMUC alumni possess in the private and public sectors." Students and alumni, as well as potential employers, will benefit from the arrangement.
