Tony Berkel '96
Brooklyn, New York, graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in philosophy from City University of New York at Hunter College. He was awarded a national fellowship for doctoral study in political science from the American Political Science Association. He now works as director of management for the affordable housing department of a New York not-for-profit, community-based organization. He writes, "I believe that without UMUC's and Hunter's outstanding educational delivery, I would not have had the foresight to achieve what I have achieved to date."

Rodger Lee Bowman '89
Moneta, Virginia, sold his real estate company and relocated to Smith Mountain Lake in southwestern Virginia. He writes, "Visit my Web site at www.SMLhomes.com or e-mail me at info@SMLHomes.com for information on vacation or retirement homes here!"

Mary K. ("Kathy") Burrell '99
Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota,
is a LAN administrator with the 5th Medical Group, where she has won Civilian of the Year awards for her group and then for all of Minot Air Force Base. The Minot YWCA named her 1999 Woman of Distinction in the government/ public service field, and she was elected and re-elected president of the Minot AFB Child Development Center's Parents' Advisory Group. She earned an MS in administration from Central Michigan University in December 2000.

Michael Fultz '98
Dover, Delaware, holds three associate's degrees and an MBA in addition to the associate's and bachelor's degrees he earned at UMUC. He is a contracting specialist and business advisor for the Air Force and, in June 2001, will move to the Air Mobility Warfare Center at Fort Dix, New Jersey, to teach contingency contracting.

Donna GrandeDonna Grande '93
Chicago, Illinois, was promoted from deputy director to co-director of the American Medical Association's SmokeLess States National Program Office. Smokeless States is a national, private-sector initiative to reduce or prevent the use of tobacco. Previously, Grande served as executive director of Full Court Press, a youth-focused, tobacco- control demonstrated program based in Tucson, Arizona, and before that as national program officer for the American Stop Smoking Intervention Study for Cancer Prevention, funded by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C.

Cyndi Inkpen '96
San Antonio, Texas, completed her MPA degree from the University of Oklahoma. She works as the associate director in the Office of Student Financial Aid of the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Jeffrey Kubik '96
Severn, Maryland, left the Air Force after almost six years of service as an electrical engineer to pursue a career in technology consulting through Booz-Allen & Hamilton. After two years with Booz-Allen, he moved to his current position with Capita Technologies, Inc., where he is a senior consultant responsible for providing network engineering and computer security design advice for product development activities. He writes, "My master's degree in technology and management has been an invaluable tool for me to leverage throughout my employment experiences. I find that it complements my BS in electrical engineering very well."

Donald R. Meeks Jr. '93
Stuttgart, Germany, serves in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. He writes, "Doin' the Army deal in Germany. Lovin' every minute of it!"

Eric Nelson '86
Poquoson, Virginia, recently moved to Virginia where he hopes to retire from the Air Force. He writes, "Life has been great so far. . . . Thanks for the strong start!"

Kurt Neubauer '88
Garland, Texas, earned a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary and an MEd from the University of Northern Texas. He received his credentials as a licensed professional counselor in 1995 and works as a staff therapist for the Pastoral Counseling and Education Center. He married Lisa Boyd Neubauer in March 1999; their daughter, Mikaela Grace Neubauer, was born in July 2000.

Ronald R. Woodard '88
Roanoke, Virginia, was recently promoted to regional director of Old Dominion University's distance learning program, TELETECHNET. He is responsible for 12 distance learning sites, located on community college campuses throughout central and southwest Virginia.
